Design Lesson “Minching Tapping Drumming”

Recipe.

Design is Everywhere
Today’s design lesson, we will design a piece of packaging paper for bottling.
The concept of the lesson is to create “a nodal point” between foodstuff and design. Everyone will experience creating a node to connect food and designing.
When the two worlds of “cooking” and “design” overlap, you will surely see the “scenery” that you see from the “cooking or cuisine” printed on the package.

Eating = Mincing Tapping Drumming
Let us consider the act of “eating”.
We may be pounding food with our cooking or our bodies to eat it. Teeth become stones, and chewing becomes pounding….
This is one of the relationships between “eating” and “cooking” found by 二戸勝也 (nokatachi) in his case study of “The Pounding Stones” and “The Stone manaita (砧板)” handed down in the countryside of the Japanese archipelago from the Jomon period to modern times.

Cuisine = Local , regional, Traditional
Wild mushrooms from the nearby mountains, fish from a nearby clean stream, vegetables from one’s own garden. When you start cooking by gathering ingredients, your dish will contain the scenery of your hometown.

Cooking = Printing
What would happen if the cooking process were superimposed on the printing process?
Then the “raw materials” and the “act” of cooking are transferred to the package.
If the cuisine contains the hometown, then “the printing process contains the hometown” by superimposing the cooking and printing processes.
To pound is also to eat. By pounding, the food is cooked, and while pounding, the food is pseudo-eaten. The act of “pseudo-eating” is also printed.
