YOSHIKATSU

古来の儀礼凧が担ってきた風占・厄祓い・成長祈願といった象徴性を、現代空間にふさわしい形へ再翻訳する試みである。「飾り凧」は生活様式の変化の中で、空から屋内へと居場所を移し、鑑賞のために生まれた凧の派生形である。元来、凧は飛ぶことで風を可視化する装置であったが、たとえ飛ばなくとも、風の動きや気配、自然の力を図案へ写し取ることで、「見えないものを見えるようにする」という本義を継承できると考えた。屋内で破綻なく成立させるため、大きさ、軽さ、吊りやすさ、陰影の美しさ、壁との相性を検討し、最終的に凧骨がシンプルで、張りの緊張感を保てる大小の「角凧」を採用した。また、複数の風の種類をモチーフとして扱うことで、自然現象を縁起として可視化することを意図している。

This project seeks to reinterpret the symbolic roles traditionally carried by ritual kites—such as wind divination, protection from misfortune, and prayers for growth—into a form suitable for contemporary interiors. “Decorative kites” emerged as a derivative type when shifts in lifestyle moved the kite’s place from the sky to indoor display. Although kites originally functioned as devices that made the wind visible through flight, we believed that their essence could still be preserved by translating the movement, atmosphere, and force of wind into graphic form, revealing what cannot be seen. To ensure the kite would function convincingly indoors, we considered size, lightness, ease of hanging, the beauty of cast shadows, and its relationship to the wall. Ultimately, we adopted a series of rectangular kaku-dako, whose simple framework and taut surface allow for a clear visual tension. Various types of wind were used as motifs, enabling natural phenomena to be rendered as auspicious signs.
