氷川神社ゆうすいてらす

参道に隣接する多目的施設のシンボライズ

埼玉県大宮の氷川参道近くに、地域の祈りと日常を受け入れるための小さな集会・滞在施設を建築するプロジェクトである。その象徴設計にあたり、まず氷川神社の名が示す「ヒ＝神聖」「カワ＝川」の源となる湧水を起点に据え、言葉が持つ多義性を生かすため表記には「平仮名」を用いた。さらに、水の流れのように異なる意味が混ざり合い、途切れることなく連なっていく様を「連綿体」で示し、加えて、近年の建築が形態を越えて関係性や気配といった不可視の領域を扱うという視点を踏まえ、場と人の意念が結ばれていく“目に見えないつながり＝意連”を象として立ち上げることを試みた。

This project involves the construction of a small gathering and lodging facility near the Hikawa approach in Ōmiya, Saitama—a place intended to receive both the everyday life and the prayers of the local community. In designing its symbolic identity, we began with the spring water that forms the etymological root of “Hikawa”—hi meaning “sacred” and kawa meaning “river.” To reflect the multiplicity of meaning inherent in the word, we adopted hiragana as the primary script. We then expressed the continuous mingling of meanings—much like the ceaseless flow and confluence of water—through renmentai, a cursive connective style of writing. Drawing on contemporary architectural discourse, which understands architecture as engaging not only with form but also with invisible realms such as relations and atmospheres, we sought to give shape to “iren,” the unseen threads of intention and connection that bind people and place together.
